ALL-ON-4 Dental Implants Procedure

All-ON-4 Dental Implants with our patient, a 66 year old Vietnamese grandmother who decided it was time to have a new smile.

She has two grandsons of four and six years old and she realized they were very aware grandma had a strange smile. She decided to visit Westcoast for the main reason that she wanted to have her grandchildren to perceive her as looking normal.

Before Surgery

All her teeth had to be removed.

Building a new smile is like building anything in which you want to do it right. It requires a proper design plan.

The orientation of the smile plane is determined by using devices and try ins to help predict what the final outcome will be like. We use a surgical guide that allows for precise placement of the planned dental implants. This allows for excellent accuracy and prevents damage to nearby sinuses and nerves.

After the implant and proposed teeth position is decided, we know what the smile will be like.

All-ON-4 Surgery Details

One major advantage of All-ON-4 Dental Implants surgery is that there is no need for bone grafting. Placing the implants in allows us to control the process of bone loss which occurs when teeth are taken out. This drawing illustrates bone loss that occurs once the remaining teeth are extracted.

The All-On-4 dental implants technique can provide immediate upper or lower dental restoration to a patient after surgery, which is a concept commonly referred to as Teeth in a Day. This procedure cannot be done if extensive bone grafting is necessary.

These photographs show this patient one day after implant surgery. Post-operative experiences vary between patients, and temporary swelling, soreness or discomfort may occur after treatment. Recovery time depends on the extent of surgery, individual healing and whether additional procedures are required. We chose a removable upper over-denture that is firm and solid on the top. It doesn’t move with chewing even steak or “thit bo kho” (beef jerky). The attachments are very special and lock the denture on.

At Westcoast, we checked and rechecked with our dental technician team in order to proceed with completion. The fit of each restoration is reviewed by the clinical and laboratory teams before final placement.

For the lower arch, a zirconia full-arch restoration was selected based on the restorative requirements of this case. Like all dental restorations, its long-term performance depends on factors such as design, bite forces, oral hygiene and ongoing maintenance.
